SCICLI: Palazzo Beneventano

IL PALAZZO DELLA FOLGORAZIONE

Sulla via Nazionale in un stretto vicolo a destra si erge l’ incantevole palazzo Beneventano in stile barocco. L’imponente architettura è senza dubbio uno dei monumenti più rappresentativi di Scicli e uno dei più caratteristici della provincia iblea. L’angolo sormontato da un cornicione e che funge da cerniera dei due prospetti, stilisticamente identici delimitando in altezza il palazzo, è forse la parte più bella di tutto l’edificio; esso è caratterizzato dalle artistiche decorazioni delle lesene bugnate, arricchite da due teste di moro in alto e da S. Giuseppe in basso. Scenografici i balconi dalle particolari inferriate panciute sostenuti da mensoloni che raffigurano animali fantastici. Le finestre del piano inferiore presentano invece nell’arco di volta mascheroni e caricature umane. Palazzo Beneventano è una delle architetture tardo-barocche più originali della Sicilia.  

Located on via Nazionale in a narrow alley on the right hand side, in its enchanting baroque style, appears the magnificent palazzo Beneventano. The impressive architecture, without doubt, makes of this building one of Scicli’s most important monuments as well as one of the most typical in the iblean province. The corner of the building which is surmounted by a cornice, that functions as a linkage between two the prospects that are stylistically identical and at the same time defines the building’s height, is probably the most beautiful part of the whole building. It is adorned with artistically decorated ashlars that are enriched by two caps of masts at the top and by a statue of Saint Joseph at the bottom. The balconies with their peculiar iron bar railings and their sustaining brackets, that resemble fantastic animals, are remarkably beautiful. The arched windows’ keystones on the lower floor are decorated with masks and grotesque human figures. The Palazzo Beneventano late baroque architecture is amongst Sicily’s most original.

Dans une ruelle, à droite de la Via Nazionale, se dresse le magnifique palais Beneventano de style baroque. L’imposante construction est sans doute l’un des monuments les plus représentatifs de Scicli et l’un des plus caractéristiques de la province. L’arête, surmontée d’une corniche qui fait office de charnière entre les deux façades au style  identique, en délimitant le palais en hauteur, est peut-être la partie la plus belle de tout l’édifice. Elle est caractérisée par des pilastres artistiquement sculptés en bossage et enjolivée par des têtes de maures à son sommet et une statue de Saint Joseph dans la partie basse. Très décorés aussi les balcons avec des garde-corps arrondis soutenus par des consoles représentant des animaux fantastiques. Les portes du rez-de-chaussée présentent par contre des mascarons et des caricatures humaines en guise de clé de voûte. Ce magnifique palais est considéré une des constructions les plus originales de Sicile.
