SAN BARTOLOMEO:

La chiesa di S. Bartlomeo risale al XVII secolo, si erge nella parte centrale della cava omonima , tra due suggestivi colli: San Matteo e la collina della Croce. Il prospetto esterno anteriore al 1693, fu ingentilito in stile tra il tardo-barocco e il neoclassico; invece la facciata risalente al (1800-1815), fu progettata dall’architetto siracusano Salvatore Alì insieme ad Antonio Mazza e Pasquale Ventura. Il suo interno si presenta fastoso; saturo di stucchi eseguiti dal Gianforma e di decorazioni in stile rococò. La chiesa ad un'unica navata, custodisce dei veri capolavori. Uno dei Presepi monumentali più belli della Sicilia risalente, originariamente, alla seconda metà del XVI secolo, è ripristinato dalla scultore napoletano Pietro Padula tra il (1773-1775); due tele eseguite da celebri pittori “Il martirio di S. Bartolomeo” del Pascucci, opera realizzata a Roma nel 1779 e “La Deposizione” un dipinto del 600’ del Mattia Preti.

Saint Bartholomew’s Church dates back to the 17^th century, it rises against the central part of the homonymous quarry between two quaint hills: mount San Matteo and mount della Croce. In 1693 the front prospect was refined with a mixed style of late baroque and neoclassic; while Salvatore Alì an architect from Syracuse together with Antonio Mazza and Pasquale Ventura designed the façade that dates back to 1800/1815. The church interior is magnificent, full with stuccos by Gianforma and rococo decorations. It is an aisleless church with some really fine masterpieces. One of Sicily’s most remarkable “Presepe” (Nativity Scene) which dates back to second part of the 16^th century and was renovated by a Neapolitan sculptor, Pietro Padula, between 1773 and 1775; two paintings by renown painters “ Saint Bartholomew’s martyrdom” depicted in Rome in 1779 by Pascucci and “La Deposizione” by Mattia Preti in the 17^th century.
